1984 350 horsepower with upgrades?
i am planning on putting a edelbrock cam and intake, part number 7101, 7102. comp cams roller rocker arms # 1301-16. edelbrock performer link timing chain and gears # 7800. a 600 cfm carb from edelbrock. and a performance master overhaul kit from napa. would any one know how much horsepower it would have, like any range at all, im just curious to know how much, thanks
and im putting headers and dual exhaust on it
Can't give you a horsepower est. with out knowing your compression ratio and heads you will be using. Heads ae the #1 power maker to the engine. There's 40-60 HP between a set of junk 882 smooger heads and a set of vortec heads. Theres a 75-100 HP diff in 882 heads and a set of brodix IK, canfeild or AFR heads.
Liet me give you some tips on your combo though..
The edelbrock cams are outdated profiles with lazy ramp speed.
That cam is way too big for your engine, unless you will for sure have over 10.25:1 compression and much better heads
You can get a better master rebuild kit and cheaper at Northern auto parts. They also have performance part upgrade options where you can pick X performance part to replace stock part for a very small added fee.
You really have to match the cam to the compression. The cam controlls the valves, bigger cams holds valves open longer. Go too big and valve is held open to long and your cyl. pressure (compression) just gets dumped out the exhaust ports.
Put that edelbrock 7102 234/244*@.050" cam in any engine with common 8.5 to 9.5:1 compression and it ill be a dog untill 4000 RPM (70-90 mph) Small 4 cyl cars would beat you starting off, you will loose all your low end torque.
I run a 218/230*@.050" cam on a 10.4:1, 505 HP 355
I run a 249/252*@.050" cam on a 10.38:1 600 HP 355 with Brodix IK200 heads
I run a 214/228*@.050" cam on a 10.2:1 390 HP 355 with vortec heads
